Daniel Johns, Ph.D.

Natural Resources Specialist

Dr. Johns's professional interests include wetland creation, delineation, and mitigation, as well as sound level monitoring.  Dr. John's work primarily involves obtaining permits for construction in wetlands and acquisition of water rights.  He also commonly works on construction stormwater plans, Phase I assessments, oil and gas industry compliance, and specialized sampling projects.  Dr. John's responsibilities include management of our teams of field personnel that collect environmental samples, wetlands data, and GPS data.

Daniel has been with the company since 2005.  Daniel’s Master’s thesis was a study of biogeochemical nitrogen cycling in wetlands created following surface mining in Rusk and Panola County, Texas.  He also worked on wetland restoration and ecophysiology projects during this time.  His studies included biophysical chemistry, statistics, wetland delineation, functional assessment, and wetland ecology.

Daniel completed course work on his Ph.D. at Auburn University and Stephen F. Austin State University.  His research work at Auburn focused on sedimentation and nutrient cycling in riparian wetlands at Fort Benning, Georgia.  His dissertation study examines chemical control of yaupon and pine physiological response to increased resource availability and will be completed in 2006.   His course work included air quality, microbial physiology and ecology, soils, and remote sensing.

He is a member of the Society of Wetland Scientists, www.sws.org .  Daniel has taught college chemistry and soils labs, and has taught air quality sections of environmental assessment course work.
